The Van Meegen Group of Companies started in 2003 a Hinterland connection with container ships between Amsterdam-Rotterdam/ Antwerp. This ships were specially designed to sail under the very low bridges with 4 layers of containers. The special ballast-tanks and the wheelhouse made this possible.
Between the Amsterdam "Ceres Paragon" Terminal and the Rotterdam/Antwerp harbour we transported more than 100.000 containers yearly. The single sailing distance is between 8 and 10 hours.
The ships can transport 208 x 20Ft containers in one time and sail 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. The exploitation and also the Container management was done by the van Meegen Company. It is also possible to sail with reefer-containers.
The customers of the Van Meegen Group of Companies were Hapag-Lloyd / NYK / OOCL / MSC / MISC.
